Office
We don’t actually have an office in our house. We did, that is, before we adopted Sara. It only seemed right to give her a room of her own. And so, our office was displaced for a bit. I found this amazing picture on Pinterest and set my mind to copy it. I made a rough sketch and showed my dad. To say my dad is handy is putting it mildly. He gave me this:
I had to get creative on where to store everything that had previously fit in one bedroom, into this tiny 8’ x 2’ space. You may notice a lot of boxes. Each box holds something. The black and white box above the printer holds paper, both notebook and printer paper. The small red and white box holds sweet notes from friends and the girls. The cream-colored box under the family sign is equivalent to a drawer. It houses our stapler, paper clips, and other misc. items. The two magazine holders are clipped together. They hold envelopes, new check books, and stationary. The black box next to the clock stores paperwork. Even the clock has a secret compartment which is empty. I can’t think of what to put in there, one day, maybe.
The ugly tray on the desk is going to be one of my projects next year. I am planning on creating a home binder and eliminating that eyesore, but until then, the three drawers serve their purpose.
Both drawers of the filing cabinet are full. Each January I go through our files keeping them organized as I prepare our taxes.
I just love the Give Thanks pillow on the seat. I am sure it is meant for Thanksgiving, but I leave it up year round. It serves as a great reminder; we have a lot to be thankful for.
I am beyond satisfied with our office. We did take the bookshelves from our previous home office and moved them to our bedroom. In a few days, I will be going through those.
Today, I filed a rather large pile of papers that had accumulated on the desk. I got rid of a few things and feel so good about all that I’m getting organized.

Tomorrow I will organize my living room.
Simple Steps:
Remove everything from your desk. As you go through each item, are there things you don’t use? Maybe someone else could use them, put them in the donate or yard sale pile.
Don’t put anything back on your desk unless you have a specific place for it and it serves a specific purpose. I had this ugly pen cup that I finally got rid of today. I didn’t need it. The top tray of the ugly three-tiered drawer set has a few pens. Truthfully, there were pens in the cup that didn’t work. I have a place in the kitchen for pen; the ones that did work went there. Be wise with your space.
File and shred any paperwork you have been ignoring. I really hope you are not like me in this area. I’m terrible at allowing a pile to build up. One of my new goals as I work through the steps to Organize Your Life is to stay on top of my filing. Once I get it in the mail, I will file it! Maybe putting the exclamation mark at the end of that sentence will help me.
Cross off your third assignment on your calendar!
Come back tomorrow as we organize the living room.
