Is there anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. James 5:13
My favorite Christmas gift I have ever received is a purple yoga mat. I’m struggling to remember how many years I have had this mat, at least five years. You should know, I don’t do yoga on this mat, instead I pray on it.
Ever since I was a teenager, I have found that when I get on my face before the Lord, He does something in my heart. But getting on my face before the Lord on old carpet that survived two dogs, was getting more and more difficult. And that’s when Santa left me a purple yoga mat under the Christmas tree.
Last week, I shared about how walking was actually a spiritual discipline for me in the post Feel God’s Pleasure. Click on the title if you missed it, read it, then come back and finish reading today’s post.
Today, I’m sharing another way to connect with God. And that is through your prayer posture. I have literally preached an entire sermon on prayer postures. I could probably write a book about it, hey, that’s a good idea. But today, we will highlight this one.
Before I preach or prepare a message, I get on my face on the prayer mat. I take off my shoes because I know it’s holy. Before a big decision, I get on my prayer mat. Many times, before I begin writing, you guessed it, I’m on my prayer mat.
And then there are those times, when He invites me to the mat. He whispers to me to come to the mat. To take off my shoes. To put my face down low. To open my heart to what Holy Spirit has to say.
I’ve made big decisions on that mat. I’ve cried lots of tears on that mat. And I have rejoiced on that mat. I have met God more times than I can count on that mat.
Here’s a picture of my mat.
You may be feeling the pressure of the season of life you are in right now. You may be experiences the best days of your life. Or you may be like a friend of mine who is making a huge life decision. May I be so bold as to encourage you to get on your face before the Lord. Take off your shoes and bury your face in the carpet. Hold your hands palms open to Him. And invite Him in to whatever you are in the middle of.
I believe He’s extending an invitation to you to get away with Him right now in this season of life. He wants to be brought into the middle of it. He wants to comfort you, to guide and direct you, to tell you how much He loves you.
Find time today to go before Him. He will meet you there, in fact, He’s already there and He’s waiting for you.
