Five Words to Think on Today

“His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”  John 2:5

As a parent, I have come to despise the word “whatever.”  To be honest, it may not be the word but the attitude of whatever.  Anyone else feel that same way?  You know, the look, the eye roll, the exhaling loudly, all simultaneously.

So when I read this verse, that word caught my eye.  Whatever.  But Mary says it with authority, like with a mom voice.  “Do WHATEVER He tells you.”

I’m reading a book about miracles, Positioned for Miracles.  The author based the entire book, which I’m halfway through, on Jesus first miracle, turning water into wine.  He drives home in one of the chapters the importance of doing whatever the Lord is leading us to do.

It’s not a new concept for me, yet I keep thinking about it.  Those five words pack quite a punch.  I find myself taking pause throughout the day and asking myself if I’m doing what He is asking me to do.

I usually write Worship Wednesday posts on Tuesday nights.  Last night I sat down with the computer feeling led to write.  I even started by adding in the Worship Wednesday photo.  That’s when Kurt got home.  We chatted a bit.  I reheated his dinner.  Then I went back to my computer.  I was tired and the next thing I knew, I was closing my computer and thinking I could write a new Worship Wednesday next week.  This morning, I got up like usual, spent my time with the Lord and was getting ready for my walk when I was reminded of those five words.  I know this is what He wants me to do.  And my heart is to do what He wants me to do.  So I grabbed my computer and began to write.  Who knew this post would turn into a confession?

I write this to encourage you to do whatever He tells you to do.  It’s a great reminder.  Five words to challenge us to walk intimately with Him and to be led by Him.

Today, take Mary’s advice and “do whatever He tells you to do.”
