Luke 1:8-10

“Once when Zechariah’s division was on duty and he was serving as priest before God, he was chosen by lot, according to the custom of the priesthood, to go into the temple of the Lord and burn incense.  And when the time for the burning of incense came, all the assembled worshipers were praying outside.”

God’s timing is perfect.  Zechariah was chosen to enter the temple.  Some priests only did this once in their lifetime.  We do not know if Zechariah had ever been in this part of the temple before.

Let’s keep in mind what we read yesterday.  Zechariah and Elizabeth had wanted a child.  They had prayed for a child.  And now they were two old people whose child-bearing years had come and gone.  But on this day, their lives would change.  This one day out of his whole life is the day an angel of the Lord would speak to him.  Zechariah was about to find out that he was going to be a daddy.

Zechariah and Elizabeth did not become bitter toward the ways of the Lord.  Instead they served the Lord with their whole hearts.  God saw their faithfulness and waited.  The timing had to be just right.  Their son was to “prepare the way for the Lord.” (Mark 1:3 NIV)

As we go about our day today, doing the ordinary, look for God to show up in an extraordinary way.  Be faithful in all you do, because you never know when an angel of the Lord may appear to you.  Okay, maybe an angel won’t appear to you, but you never know when God is going to knock your socks off with a blessing of a lifetime!
