How to Have a Smooth Morning

IMG_2543

Over the summer I determined to make a change to my morning routine.  Oddly enough, I found in order to impact my morning routine, the best thing I could do was to establish an evening routine.

After a whole semester of smooth mornings, I thought I’d write a post about it.  Maybe it will help you, or inspire you.

Each night I pretty much do the same thing, I’m boring that way.  After dinner, I head into my bedroom to change into my pajamas while my girls do the dishes and wipe down the kitchen.  I know, I’m spoiled.  I find that when I come into the kitchen in the morning to pack lunches, if my kitchen is clean, I have a better morning.

You may recall a post I wrote last July, Clothes Management 101.  I have since started planning my outfits one month at a time.  I know, I sound crazy.  But, friends, for me it works.  I found a calendar at Target for $3.  I love it because it is attached to a clip board.  I write my outfits down for the whole month and keep the clipboard in my bathroom linen closet.  You could even find a calendar on-line and print it and save the $3.

Here are my 3 simple steps to a great morning:

  • After I change into my pajamas, I look at my calendar and lay out my clothes for the next day in my bathroom.  I include jewelry, scarves, sweater or jacket.  I even leave a pair of socks, bra, and panties on the bathroom counter.  It’s all right there ready for me in the morning.
  • I head to the kitchen and look at the calendar I have hanging in my pantry with my monthly meal plan.  I check to see if I need to take anything out of the freezer for dinner the next night.  I also make sure that the kitchen counter is cleared off and wiped down.
  • I check with Kurt and my calendar to see what we are doing the next day.  If I need to bring anything with me for work or an errand I’m running after work, I put it in my car or purse.

That’s it.  These 3 simple steps help me to have a fantastic morning!  Do you have anything that you do each night to help ensure your morning runs smoothly?  If so, please share them in the comments below.
