How to Make Chocolate Curls

I absolutely love chocolate cake.  It is my favorite food.  When I give my students their spelling test I try to use each word in a sentence about chocolate cake.  If I want a crowd pleaser I will usually make my favorite chocolate cake recipe.  But to top it off, to make it really pop, I add chocolate curls.  They are always a big hit.  I’m surprised at how often people who I would consider better bakers than me ask me how I do it.

Today, I’ll let you in on my secret to making chocolate curls.  You only need two things:  a vegetable peeler and a Hershey’s candy bar.

The candy bar needs to be at room temperature.  In fact, I find that during the winter, the curls don’t come out as curly.  I peel off half the wrapper and hold onto the candy bar with the remaining wrapper.  You want to do this because the heat from your hands will melt the candy bar.

I take the vegetable peeler and begin peeling away just like I would peel a potato or carrot.  As I slowly move the peeler down the candy bar the chocolate forms a beautiful curl.

That’s it.  Pretty simple and it looks great.  Try it on your next chocolate cake, you won’t be disappointed, and you’ll be the hit of the party.
