His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3
This is one of the verses I have memorized and yet one that I forget the truth in it. We have ALL we need for life and godliness. Do you need that reminder? I did this past week. I’ll tell you my story.
I received a phone call late one night and it just didn’t sit right with me. It screamed of injustice for a dear friend. I “prayed” about it. I put that in quotes because it was more like, “Oh Lord, this is horrible.” And that was about it. Then I began ruminating over it.
I played all the different scenarios in my head. Thoughts of calling them back and encouraging them to stand up for themselves kept crossing my mind. I tossed and turned as I tried to go to sleep. The next morning it was still on my mind. This time I prayed a little more about it. I wish I could tell you I contended for my friend. But I didn’t. I prayed for them but then moved on to my morning routine.
With my journal, Bible and prayer book in hand, I spent 30 minutes with the Lord. Then changed clothes, grabbed my ear buds and headed out the door for a 30 minute walk around my neighborhood. I relished the cool breeze knowing these cool mornings are quickly coming to an end as we will hit 111 degrees on Friday.
Once home I made myself oatmeal for breakfast, and took a shower. As I was putting on make-up I realized I hadn’t switched my verse for the day. Allow me to explain. Years ago, my friend Paige was my secret Santa. One of the gifts she gave me was a small packet of personalized Bible verses. It is one of my favorite gifts I’ve ever received. Every morning I take the verse from the day before and move it to the back of the stack. (If you are interested in ordering some click here for the website. They are $15. I don’t know her or get any sort of royalty for sending you to her site, but I thought I’d include her info just in case you are interested in getting them for you or as a gift. I’ve given several as gifts over the years.)
As I reached to move the verse from yesterday to the back I stopped and reread yesterday’s verse.
Wow! That verse stopped me in my tracks. You see, the Lord had prepared a way for me to deal with the phone call the previous night. Had I only remembered the verse. He tells me to “approach the throne of grace with confidence.” Confidence. Not worry or fret or anxiety or wringing my hands. No. With Confidence. “So that you can receive mercy and find grace to help you in your time of need.” Right there in black and white “to help you in your time of need.”
I paused. Smiled. And rejoiced. I went before the throne of grace with confidence and truly contended for my friend. Within a few hours they called to tell me they had made progress in the situation.
So, that’s why I thought the verse for today should be that we have all we need because of His divine power. Friends, are you struggling with something right now.
Allow me to speak a declaration over you.
You have all you need because of His divine power.
Now personalize it.
I have all I need because of Your divine power.
Say it again.
I have all I need because of Your divine power.
What are you lacking? Ask Him. Go boldly before the throne with confidence. Receive the mercy He has for you. And wait for the answer.
I know the Lord wants to spend more time with you. God loves you. He wants a deeper relationship with you. He wants you to know Him intimately. Take time today to strengthen your relationship with him, you won’t be sorry.
If this declaration speaks to you, grab a yellow Post-It and jot it down or print it. Hang that Post-It Note or printed copy on your bathroom mirror or refrigerator or computer. Put it somewhere you will see it.
Be reminded of the good promise He makes to you because He has good things for you.
