“He said to them, ‘Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?” Luke 24:38
Sitting at my kitchen table in the early morning hours on Sunday, I read this verse. It stood out to me like neon sign. I felt as though Jesus was talking right to me. Like He was asking me “why are you troubled?” and “Why do doubts rise in your mind?”
In the quiet, I sat there, allowing the Holy Spirit to walk through my thoughts and my heavy heart. Slowly He delicately picked apart my thoughts. He challenged me as to why I was doubting God’s sovereignty. He brought scripture to mind that confronted the lies I was believing.
You see, this passage takes place after Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus is talking to the disciples. These are the men who had walked with Him, seen Him heal, and heard Him speak. They were in the midst of talking about Jesus appearing to the travelers on the road to Emmaus when Jesus shows up. They think He is a ghost. He responds to this absurdity with our verse for today.
They knew Him. So why were they so surprised when He did exactly what He had told them He would do. He would rise from the dead.
In my life, He is my Savior, my Redeemer, my Lord, my King, and the list could go on. So why do I allow “doubts to rise up in my mind?”
All day on Sunday, I continued to mediate on this verse. May I suggest you do the same. Cling to the truth of God’s Word and watch your worries disappear!
