Prepare Your Heart for the Holidays Day 4: Song of Joy

Prepare Your Heart for the Holidays

“Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.” Psalm 107:22 NIV

Psalm 107 has a repeating phrase throughout the chapter, “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love.” This phrase appears 4 times in 43 verses.  If you have the time, take a moment and read Psalm 107.

The Psalmist tells of the Lord’s people calling to Him. Over and over again, the people call to the Lord in the midst of their trouble.  He responds as stated below:

“…and he delivered them from their distress.” v 6

“…and he saved them from their distress.” v 13

“He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains.” v 13

“…for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron.” v 16

“…he rescued them from the grave.” v 20

“…and he brought them out of their distress.” v 28

“He stilled the storm to a whisper;” v 29

The remainder of the chapter describes how He blesses them.

This chapter is for you and me. When life’s storms rage around us, we can call to the Lord.  He will answer us.  He will deliver us or rescue us.  He will bring the storm to a whisper.  He will then bless us.  He will pour out His goodness on us.  And we will sing of His goodness with “songs of joy.”  We will “give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love.”

Simple Steps:

Bless the Lord. Declare aloud a song of joy.  Tell someone today of the Lord’s goodness.

Write a gift of worship to the Lord today. My favorite times to spend with the Lord are either early in the morning before the rest of the house is awake, or late at night when everyone has already gone to bed.  Find a time today when you can write a gift of worship to the Lord.

Leave a word of encouragement in the comments below.

Come back tomorrow as we Prepare our Hearts for the Holidays.
