Have you ever had the Lord whisper to you just as you woke up? That’s what happened to me on Sunday morning. Just as I rolled over and opened my eyes to welcome the early morning sunlight, one word popped into my mind…reset.
I laid there contemplating the word. So much in my life seems to have been reset. I thought of how last year, 2019, the Lord gave me the word new and how so many things in my life are new. This word, at the end of April, didn’t quite feel like it should be the word for 2020.
But even as I type this now, I think about how so many of us have had to reset. We are all doing things differently than before mid-March. It’s as if a reset button was pushed on the entire planet.
So I chewed on this word as I read my Bible and prayed over my day. I journaled about it in my blessings journal. I just knew I would be writing this very blog post about the word. Then something happened.
While watching church online I felt the Holy Spirit nudge me. Reset. Hmmm. I had already determined I would write about it. I had already been meditating on it. What are you saying, Lord?
Reset.
Ok, so you aren’t quite done talking to me about this. Meanwhile the message is going and I’m trying to follow along. Didn’t He understand I was trying to listen to grow in my faith?
And that’s when I got another clue…spiritual disciplines. You see, the Lord has been doing a work in me about spiritual disciplines. If you have been following this blog, you may have noticed it. There seems to be a common thread among the posts since the fall all about spiritual disciplines.
As if there were fireworks spelling out what the Lord seemed to want me to get, I got it! The Bible study I would lead this summer now had a working title. You guessed it. RESET.
It makes so much sense to me that I would teach spiritual disciplines from the perspective of a reset.
When I think of our world today, mid-pandemic, I can see why we might need to study about resetting. The world is changing and I’m not 100% convinced that we are going back to “normal” anytime soon if ever. So with this reset, why not crack open the Word and see what God is saying to us.
The interesting thing I find about spiritual disciplines is that they are universal and unique all at the same time. For some, the spiritual discipline of rest may look like taking a nap, while for someone else it may be taking a hike.
I’m excited to see what God shows us this summer as we dig into His Word. What is He inviting us into? I can’t wait to find out.
I usually teach for the month of June, a 5-week study right here in my living room. This year, I don’t know what it will look like. I don’t know if it will be in June or July. If it will be online or in my living room. I do know it will be at night because I’m working during the day.
Stay tuned. I’ll keep you posted. I just wanted you to start thinking about what spiritual disciplines you practice and to be asking the Holy Spirit what spiritual disciplines He is inviting you into.
Would you consider praying for me as well? I want to hear what the Lord is saying so I can pass it on to you.
I look forward to connecting with you this summer. Blessings to you!
Sounds exciting! I hope to be a part!💕
I hope you are a part!!!
