Shelter

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”  Psalm 91:1(NIV)

As I am writing this, it is storming outside.  The lightening is illuminating the sky.  The thunder is clapping so hard that Foxy, our dog, is sticking to me like glue.  The wreath hanging on the front door was blown down on the ground.  And the rain is pelting the windows.

We lit a few candles because our lights have flickered a few times.  Kurt opened the shade in our kitchen to discover that one of our trees has fallen over.

What a storm!

And yet, we are safe inside our little house.  We feel safe.  We know that if we stay indoors we will stay dry.  We might jump when the thunder roars, but we are not in danger because we are protected from the storm by sturdy walls and a secure roof.

At times when the storms of life rage against us, we are safe in “the shelter of the Most High.”  We might jump at first from the shock of the storm, just like the thunder startles us, but we will “rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

Today let’s mediate on this verse.  Let’s keep it at the forefront of our mind.  You are safe in “the shelter of the Most High” and you can “rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
